ARRA provides approximately $100 billion for education, creating an opportunity to save hundreds of thousands of jobs, support states and school districts, and advance reforms and improvements that will create long-lasting results for students and the nation.

Guidance for Reporting on the Use of ARRA Funds

This memo from the Office of Management and Budget provides guidance on the reporting requirements of the Recovery Act.

Implementing Guidance for Reports on Use of Funds Pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) recently published a guidance document outlining the reporting requirements included in Section 1512 of the Recovery Act for recipients of grants, loans, and other forms of assistance. The reports required by Section 1512 will be submitted by recipients beginning in October 2009 and should answer questions such as:

  • Who is receiving Recovery Act dollars and in what amounts?
  • What projects or activities are being funded with Recovery Act dollars?
  • What is the completion status of such projects or activities and what impact have they had on job creation and retention?
Race To The Top Applications

The U.S. Department of Education has released the final application for the Race to the Top Fund. The four billion dollar fund will be awarded in grants to states that have shown success in raising student achievement and have the most solid plans to accelerate their educational reforms in the future. The intent is for these states to offer models of best practices for the rest of the nation to follow.

Information conference calls will take place in November and December; technical assistance workshops are scheduled for December 3, in Denver, Colorado, and December 10, in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top Fund

The U.S. Department of Education published the Notice of Proposed Priorities for the Race to the Top Fund in late July. The fund provides competitive grants to encourage and reward states that are creating the conditions for education innovation and reform; implementing ambitious plans in the four education reform areas described in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA); and achieving significant improvement in student outcomes, including making substantial gains in student achievement, closing achievement gaps, improving high school graduation rates, and ensuring that students are prepared for success in college and careers.
