  1. The Education Trust has recently released the report Teaching Inequality: How Poor and Minority Students Are Shortchanged on Teacher Quality. The report presents key findings of soon-to-be-released research in three states--Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The findings reveal that schools in these states and districts with high percentages of low-income and minority students are more likely to have teachers who are inexperienced, have lower basic academic skills, or are not highly qualified.

  2. The University of North Carolina's FPG Child Development Institute has recently released a report that describes an early intervention system being developed for young children (3 to 5-year-olds), called Recognition and Response. Support for this type of intervention can be found in the reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and in the Response to Intervention (RTI) model for school-age children.

  3. This report from the Alliance for Excellent Education explains the reasons different graduation rate formulas and statistics exist and why states report them differently. Policy changes are identified with the emphasis on using the information for assessing a schools' current effectiveness and making improvements.

  4. This report published by Educational Testing Service (ETS) examines information on the abilities and qualities needed to enter employment with a high school diploma, including the kinds of skills and abilities that employers want.

  5. The What Works Clearinghouse has recently released a character education review. The review focuses on character education programs designed for use in elementary, middle level, and high schools.

  6. Updated July 11th, the funds included in the tables are for programs that allocate funds to states using statutory formulas from FY 2001 through the FY 2007 President's Budget Request. The data presented in the tables can be examined by program or by state.
