  1. The National High School Center recently released this report which identifies patterns of practice found in higher performing schools. The report offers examples of ways states can guide and support the types of initiatives outlined, including setting explicit standards, developing a coherent policy framework around teacher quality, implementing innovative approaches to reaching more students, and methods for supporting data-responsive action at the local level.

  2. Regional Resource and Federal Centers Network's National State Policy Database

    The National State Policy Database allows you to search and download full copies or specific sections of the federal and state special education regulations. Currently, the database contains only regulations pertaining to Part B.

  3. The Center on Instruction has released a series of three ELL Practical Guidelines for the Education of English Language Learners.

    - Research-Based Recommendations for Instruction and Academic Interventions
    - Research-Based Recommendations for Serving Adolescent Newcomers
    - Research-Based Recommendations for the Use of Accommodations in Large-Scale Assessments
  4. The Center for Data-Driven Reform in Education at Johns Hopkins University has created a new website that summarizes scientific reviews of research on educational programs for grades K-12.

  5. This policy brief from the Consortium for School Improvement at CCSSO, describes systems of support in eight states--Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The policy brief was developed to facilitate cross-state discussions regarding how diverse states are maximizing their human and fiscal resources to support schools in need of improvement by assisting with data analysis, plan development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation.

  6. The World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) has created the English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards Wizard. The wizard helps educators locate ELP standards of interest, by grade level, domain type (listening, reading, speaking, and writing) and standard type (social and instructional, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies).

  7. The Alliance for Excellent Education has recently released a report called Double the Work: Challenges and Solutions to Acquiring Language and Academic Literacy for Adolescent English Language Learners. The report argues for particular teaching practices and educational policies designed to help adolescent English language learners gain academic literacy skills. Double the Work draws from the existing research literature on adolescent literacy and the teaching of ELLs. The report also includes a demographic analysis of the nation's ELLs from the Migration Policy Institute.
