  1. The National High School Center recently released a fact sheet that provides an overview of the current state of high school literacy instruction and achievement as well as the importance of obtaining a high level of literacy prior to leaving high school. The fact sheet contextualizes the challenges associated with literacy instruction at the high school level with particular emphasis on literacy achievement of underserved student populations.

  2. The Center on Instruction has recently released a guide for teachers describing seven effective instructional practices for teaching mathematics to K–12 students with learning disabilities. The guide also incorporates recommendations from the Final Report of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel as well as specifying research-based recommendations for students with learning disabilities and for students who are experiencing difficulties in learning mathematics but are not identified as having a math learning disability.

  3. The Center on Instruction recently released a meta-analysis report synthesizing experimental and quasi-experimental research on instruction that enhances the mathematics performance of students in grades 1–12 with learning disabilities. Implications for practice and suggestions for next steps for research and professional development efforts in this field are also discussed.

  4. The Center on Education Policy recently published a report describing how classroom practices have been influenced by No Child Left Behind and related state policies in Illinois. Drawn from classroom observations and interviews, the report describes how teachers, principals, and administrators have responded to the federal school accountability law.

  5. The Center on Reinventing Public Education recently published a report synthesizing six years of an applied research study of the U.S. K–12 public school finance system. The report offers state officials five suggestions for redesigning a school finance system that links resources and results.

  6. The Education Commission of the States (ECS) has released a report brief highlighting model leadership policies that focus on factors closely linked to student success. The brief:

    • Presents elements of research that support these leadership principles
    • Provides supporting details for the elements most likely to drive gains in student achievement
    • Suggests examples of supporting policy
  7. Education Week's annual report, Quality Counts 2009, is now available. The annual report tracks state education policies and outcomes.
