Defining and Evaluating Teacher Effectiveness: SEA Roles and Responsibilities

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 (All day) - Thursday, May 20, 2010 (All day)
Portland, OR
Event sponsored by NWRCC

This symposium engaged participants in considering teacher effectiveness issues—What is it? How is it measured? What is the SEA role in setting policy and developing guidance?

Hosted by NWRCC in collaboration with the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (TQ Center). During the symposium, SEA teams had the opportunity to explore findings from recent literature and research, learn from colleagues in other states, and consider needed actions.

SEA Teams

The symposium was designed to promote interaction among and within SEA teams. Each state sent up to eight team members.

Outcomes for SEA teams:

  • Developed a shared understanding of the multiple components included in a comprehensive and robust definition of teacher effectiveness
  • Increased understanding of methods for measuring teacher effectiveness
  • Identified action steps to promote effective dialogue among stakeholders about improving teacher effectiveness
