SIG Regional Conference - Central

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 (All day) - Wednesday, May 25, 2011 (All day)
Denver, CO
Event sponsored by NWRCC

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, in partnership with Comprehensive Centers, hosted a series of regional capacity building conferences in support of state education agencies, local education agencies, and schools implementing the School Improvement Grants (SIG).

Through keynote presentations, extended breakout sessions, context-alike discussions, and state-specific meetings, conference participants had an opportunity to:

  • Develop deeper knowledge of evidence-based strategies for turning around low-performing schools
  • Learn from national education leaders, researchers, and practitioners who have successfully implemented district and school improvement initiatives
  • Share experiences with educators from the region who are also leading turnaround efforts
  • Participate in sessions focused on the unique needs of rural schools and schools serving Native American and Alaska Native students

Four conferences—The Western and Eastern conferences included school turnaround presentations applicable to all SIG grantees as well as special sessions on rural and high school turnaround. The themed conferences in the Midwest and Central regions provided some general sessions but primarily focused on the conference themes of high school and rural school turnaround.

Other conferences:
Western - April 5–6, Los Angeles, CA
Eastern - April 13–14, 2011, Washington, DC
Midwest - May 18–19, 2011, Chicago, IL (High School Turnaround)
