NWRCC convenes state education agency (SEA) staff in focus-based Learning Communities. SEA staff across the five states with similar interests around various topics have opportunities to share challenges, offer solutions, and learn of relevant resources related to these topics.
The Learning Community members typically meet via audioconference and/or webinars, but also periodically convene face-to-face at meetings and conferences. These Learning Communities serve to extend NWRCC's technical assistance efforts to build the capacity of SEA staff to meet the requirements of NCLB and provide support to their districts and schools.
The NWRCC Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Learning Community offers the SEAs of Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming an opportunity to engage in conversation and an exchange of ideas with respect to the CCSS. Interested SEA staff are invited to join this community. We hope to have broad representation across the SEAs as states begin the process of adoption and implementation.

Part of the NWRCC mission includes helping SEAs deal with compliance issues surrounding HQT requirements. Toward this end, NWRCC proposed the establishment of an HQT Learning Community (HQT-LC) designed for and by SEA Title IIA Directors. The HQT-LC goal is to foster peer-to-peer communication between SEAs; strategize and problem solve on HQT compliance issues; serve as a vehicle for disseminating information and resources from the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (NCCTQ), and provide SEA Title IIA directors with ready and easy access to NWRCC resources.
HQT-LC meetings occur approximately every six weeks during the school year. Most meetings happen via teleconference and are supported with Web 2.0 online collaboration tools. Face-to-face meetings are arranged when feasible, such as during the NCCTQ national conferences.

NWRCC STEM Learning Community (formerly the Mathematics Learning Community) provides SEA members with a chance to learn about regional and national research and reports. NWRCC hosted activities for the STEM Learning Community include teleconferences or webinars, with regional and national experts joining the conversations, and symposia that provide members the opportunity for face-to-face interaction.
